Welcome to the Very Queer Little Free Library!
Our biggest mission is to find ways to support and help build community. One of the best ways to do that is through the power of reading!
We are so excited to have gotten to partner with the Little Free Library Organization to help get stories into the hands of anyone who wants and/or needs them.
We feature stories about and by LGBTQ+ and other marginalized folks, but you can find (& drop off), all sorts of books!
You can find us INSIDE THE VELVET MILL, next to/just outside of Shuttle Press & Bindery, across from Whitecrest Eatery.
Stonington Pride is delighted to have created the "Very Queer Little Free Library" for our community.
We are even more excited to have done so in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way!
We:
thrifted an old steamer trunk for the body of the library
were gifted some wallpaper leftover after a home reno for updating the interior
used paints that were already purchased for a previous project, and
many of our books have been gifted second hand or purchased from used book shops
Ensuring our efforts are sustainable in every way is extremely important to us.
Thank you to Noah Kaeser for working with us on this amazing project. From taking our wild ideas and turning them into real plans, to crafting a custom base and shelving, to physically installing the library in the Mill - we couldn't do it without you!
For those who have asked how they can support this project, we have a few answers:
If you'd like to supply some books you have on hand, feel free to just drop by and put them on the shelves, OR you can email us and we can arrange pick up.
If you'd like to help us supplement our donated books, we buy them from local used book and thrift shops, and also from ThriftBooks. Gift cards are VERY helpful, and can be sent by email to Stonington Pride (at) gmail (dot) com.
